Adult Learning
For many years Kehilat Hakerem has been offering adult learning frameworks in Hebrew, English, Russian and Spanish. All of our classes are conducted in an open-minded environment and attract participants from the public at large. This year we have partnered with Midreshet Yerushalyim [www.mili.org], an arm of the Schehcter Institute [www.schechter.edu], to open our own Beit-Midrash: MIDRESHET HAKEREM FOR JEWISH CULTURE. Midreshet Hakerem will make a major effort to attract secular Israelis who may be interested in studying classic and modern Jewish texts.
On May 26th, an overflow crowd participated in the inauguration of MidreshetHakerem. Speakers included Schechter Institute president Rabbi David Golinkin and Israeli author Yochi Brandes. Regular classes are to begin this Autumn, in our new Spitzer Family Education Center (currently under construction).
Beit-Midrash coordinator Ron Nissel is a new member of our professional staff. Ron, a former IDF intelligence officer, has worked in both formal and informal education with teens and adults. In the last few years, he has come to specialize in providing Batei-Midrash to secular Israelis. Ron’s tasks with us will include both teaching in the Beit-Midrash and responsibility for its administrative aspects.
Ron, his wife Anat, and their four children live in nearby Yuvalim. In addition to being a Jewish Educator, Ron also has a Trilotherapy practice.
